Smoking ban

As most of you know Allegheny county passed a smoking ban last year effective Jan.1 2007. Unfortunately a couple of restaurant owners are suing the county about the part that effects smoking in a restaurant. Though this piece of the legislation is on hold the smoking in office buildings part went into effect. So why is it that while I am in the Mt. Lebanon municipal building today, I see two women who work in the tax office standing in the doorway smoking??? The law is you have to be 5 feet from the door so that people like me who would rather not inhale your smoke, don't have to. I realize that it is cold outside but if it is that important to you to have a smoke then you will have to freeze. There is currently a bill in the PA senate that would ban smoking in the entire commonwealth. I would love for this to pass!!!!!!!!! I have already contacted Sen Pippy and Rep. Smith to tell them to vote for it. I know people say that it will hurt the restaurants, but studies show that they will make more money because people like me will be more likely to try their establishment.

So here's to clean breathable air for everyone!!!!!

Hello fellow Pittsburghers. Welcome to my musings. As this is the first day for the blog I thought I would start off light. Nothing to controversial.

  • I was reading the paper and see that City Councilman Motznik is blaming Councilman Peduto for the recent news coverage of the Mayor and his action at the Steelers game over a year ago. I was really hoping this would just go away as it has run its course. But for some reason Mr. Motznik felt he needed to bring it up again. Now I do not live in the city I cannot vote for any of these people, and I am glad to say that. They are making the city look bad again. You would think for once these people would stop going at each other and try to fix the city. There are so many other things that are more important than this, yet they will not let it go. Instead of arguing over this story, why not work on keeping the Pens in town. How about lowering property taxes. The list goes on and on. So please gentlemen let it go.

  • Speaking of the Pens... I hope they get this arena thing done soon. I am confident that they are staying and just want it over with. Here's why I think they are going to stay. Mr. Burkel and Gov. Rendell are friends. He is also a big supporter of the Democratic party. If the Pens leave town it could cost Dan Onorato and Mayor Ravenstal their political lives. I don't thing Mr. Burkel wants that to happen. Would not look good to the DNC if he loses them the man who moght be the next Gov of PA.

Well that is all for now. Check back for more Musings in the near future.
